My focus has been a bit different in the last few months. In the past i had been mixing a lot of concrete castings into my exhibitions, but lately it's all been glass. and i've been attempting to make steel frames for all my pieces. and i've been abandoning my very small formats that have been what i mainly exhibited at fairs and festivals. this crafty bastards will showcase the last pieces of my smaller series and i'll be bringing a few slightly larger pieces. if you have been interested in purchasing small works of mine ( less that 12 inches x 12 inches) this may be one of your last chances.

 i will have my remaining concrete doors as well. I've got about 15 left and i don't foresee making more.

I've been doing fewer and fewer street festivals and not sure how i'll approach this next year, but i have been focusing on larger works and commissioned pieces.

Intersect: Glass Meets Art

I will be participating in a glass exhibition with a few other washington dc based glass artists at the Ratner Museum in Bethesda , MD.

Intersect: Glass Meets Art

In-ter-sect:  (in-ter-sekt) To cut across or overlap each other, to have one or more points in common.

The eight artists in this exhibit have each been on an artistic journey and perhaps, still are. Their travels have taken them to different places and each unique journey distinguishes each artist from the other. Most of them have crossed paths at some point. In this exhibit, the artists, all independently chosen, converge for INTERSECT: Glass Meets Art. Glass and art are the points they have in common.

Sean Hennessey, a sculptor and painter, currently works in glass and concrete, creating narrative works inspired by artifacts, mythology, and common everyday objects. Jill Tanenbaum combines her graphic art background with glass to create her unique designs. Jill is the president of Jill Tanenbaum Graphic Design and Advertising, Inc..  In her dynamic glass and mixed media creations, in which depth and contrast are dominant, Anne Elise Pemberton explores the relationship between plant, human, and atomic structures. Robert Weiner’s Colorbar Murrine Series, affords him the opportunity to experiment with color, fusing temperatures, and to express a personal style that reflects simplicity with a close attention to detail. Creating with confidence and passion, Judith Busby uses the copper-foil technique in stained glass.  Her drawing and painting background has evolved over time into original designs for both glass works and fiber art quilts.  Nancy Weisser is an award winning multimedia artist with a focus on glass since 1980. As owner of Weisser Glass Studio, one of the original teaching studios in the area Nancy has made a substantial contribution to the dynamic growth of the Washington glass community. Kari Minnick holds a degree in studio art from the University of California and has been an exhibiting artist and educator for over twenty-five years. Collected internationally, Kari's works are in private, corporate and embassy collections. Benjamin Bornstein brings his personal point of view and approach to glass art to this diverse group.

Artwalk in Bloomingdale

This Saturday August 7th is the second annual Bloomingdale Artwalk in the fabulous Bloomingdale Neighborhood of Washington, DC. Selected artists will be exhibiting art in front yards and stoops along First Street NW, between Florida Avenue NW and Rhode Island Avenue NW. I'll have a sculpture on display. Other activities include:

1. An Exhibit at 87 Florida

2. An Artists Market, featuring smaller works by local artists. My neighbor Brendan Smith, included!

3. Facepainting, ballon art and other things. you know, for the kids.

4. An open house preview for what will soon be Bloomingdale's first Tavern, Rustik

5. Live Music!

Call to Arts Vendors –

An exciting new outdoor arts market brought to you by the Walter E. Washington Convention Center and the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities.

We are looking for DC artists to help activate the Shaw neighborhood for two weekends in August (7th & 8th  and 14th & 15th).  We are looking for artists and crafters based in DC to sell their works and wares!

We're looking for 22 vendors for each day (it is not required to do all four days. We are happy to let people chose their level of participation). Space is FREE.

In addition to the craft fair, there will be an affordable art fair called Paper Pushers where we are looking for artists to sell original works on paper (size restrictions do apply- no bigger than 20" in any one dimension and nothing priced above $200) where people can buy the artwork right there and go. Artists will recieve full sale price of artwork less any processing fees that may occur.

We are also looking for people who would be interested in leading workshops with kids- live painting, decorating your own skate deck, bike repair, juggling, dj-ing…this would also be a paid position.

Other ideas are forming and our ears are open! If you have something you're itching to try out, don't hold back- let me know! If you have an idea or would like to apply, please contact Beth Baldwin at gobethgo@gmail.com to participate

Arts on Foot Art Market call for entry

Call For Entries: 2010 Arts on Foot Art Market- Downtown DC

Deadline: July 6, 2009.   Diverse Markets Management announces a call to artists for the 2010 Arts on Foot Art Market, held September 8, 9, 10 and 11.  The Weekday Art Market on Wednesday,Thursday and Friday will be held on the wide sidewalk of F Street, NW between 7th & 9th Streets.  The full festival on Saturday will take place on F Street, NW between 6th & 7th and between 7th & 9th Streets, and 8th Street between E & F Streets in Washington DC in front of the Smithsonian Portrait Museum. The Art Market highlights the work of local, regional and national visual artists. 80-100 artists will be selected to exhibit in 13 media categories. All work must be original and completely artist-produced; imports and re-sales are not permitted.

All artists wishing to participate must complete an application and pay a $30 application fee.  An independent professional jury will review applications, images of products, and booth display. HAMPS Presents ARTventures on H on June 17. Thursday Night Art Walk Features Ten Galleries and Special Dining Discounts on H Street, NE. 

On June 17, CHAMPS - Capitol Hill’s Chamber of Commerce presents ARTventures on H. From 5-7:30pm, ten different galleries and art spaces along the H Street Corridor will open their doors to the Capitol Hill community for a special neighborhood art walk. Participants will each be given an ARTventures “passport,” to be stamped at each stop on the art walk. For every stamp received, attendees receive an increased discount at more than ten participating restaurants that evening from 7-9pm.
