FLIK at Art Whino friday night
FLIK 2008 & FLIK interactive |
Art Outlet and Art Whino are proud to announce their partnership in presenting the 2nd annual FLIK International Movie Festival and FLIK Interactive exhibition to be held at Art Whino Gallery at the new National Harbor, July 25th thru July 27th, 2008.
FLIK is a multi faceted event that features not only the best in contemporary animation, experimental films, as well as multi-disciplinary and interactive new media art, but it also reaches out to the public at large with a call out for socially relevant expression and person storytelling thru its I CINEMA and VOX POPULI programs, which will continue beyond the festival itself.
FLIK interactive art will explore or reflect on how new and old technology and technique influence how we hook up and how we view the world. Is change or lack thereof good, bad, sublime, dystopic, utopic or irrelevant? How do these tools matter, if at all?
The exhibit and screenings will be held at Art Whino @ National Harbor, 173 Waterfront Street, National Harbor, MD 20745, July 25th through 27th. Admission will be a suggested donation of $10, which will also get you a free beverage and a bag of popcorn. For directions or the complete program listing, visit www.artoutlet.org , www.artwhino.com or www.flikfestival.com .

Fridays: 12 – 7 pm
Saturdays: 9 am to 7 pm

Images of Washington
Deadline: Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at 5:30 pm
The DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities (DCCAH) is purchasing artwork that captures archetypes of Washington DC. Subjects include specific neighborhoods, parks and circles, festivals, gathering places, or cultural events. Less obvious motifs include downtown redevelopment, restaurants, shops and businesses, work places, or Metro stations. Artists should consider a broad range of subject matter as long as the works have an unmistakable subject reflecting life in the District. Artists should also consider submitting images of Washington that depict the changing neighborhoods and the parts of the city that are disappearing. The Committee is very interested in depictions of all wards of the city. The collection serves to honor and embrace life in the District.

The DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities (DCCAH) in collaboration with District Department of Transportation (DDOT) and Councilmember Tommy Wells' Office is seeking artists to create artistic designs to enhance the standard bike racks and create designs for unique bike racks that will be placed in various locations citywide. Artists are encouraged to incorporate their interpretations of the "DC experience" into their artwork. Artists may also wish to consider particular locations for placement of their work and create designs specifically suited for each location.

old.red.door.
i'm interested in the notion of common, or slightly nostalgic objects presented as ancient. Artifacts of our present life.
As if our understanding of things will someday come to be seen as primitive. as if our everyday objects are metaphors worthy of being preserved. obviously, i think they are.
I'm also interested in the play between the ethereal aspects of glass and the earthly quality of concrete.
this, to me, indicates a mysterious origination of objects encrusted in the corporeality of everyday experience.
hopefully, its at least pleasing to look at. ; )
