stuck in lebanon

I hadnt really said much about my trip to lebanon, just posted the pictures. I am quite shocked at the war that has broken out, considering i was just there last week!
and YES, we are safely back!

My wife's family, however, is stuck there and we dont really know whats going to happen. My brother in law and his wife landed at the airport after their honeymoon just one hour before it got bombed. thankfully they made it out of beirut and are in the mountains.

Its been nerve racking to say the least.



I have received a few emails from friends there and everyone seems to be ok. as much as they can be.

studio theatre yard sale

The Studio Theatre is hosting its Annual Garage Sale on Saturday, July 22, 2006 from 10am– 4pm at 14th and P Street, NW. These are from a very old soap factory now turned museum in Saida.

Downtown Beirut

Downtown beirut is the project of Solidere. A pedestrian area with high end shops, some ruins, and a thriving evening life with many cafes and restaurants. While a bit plastic, its certainly way better than most modern building projects. definitely better than any shopping mall.

The Citadel sits on top of a hill in the old section of Tripoli. Here is its history.

Tripoli is a somewhat depressing city. its very dirty, very chaotic, and riddled with poverty. Quite a tense place. Definitely fascinating, and the souks were so distracting, i hardly took any pictures. the souks were dumbfounding, actually.

Sur has the largest and best preserved Hippodrome in the world. The hippodrome is on the same grounds as a burial site.
